JAM Goes Racing-
AMA PRO RACING HAS tapped Jam Sports and
Entertainment as its new promoter partner for the AMA U.S.
SuperCross Championship Series beginning with the 2003
season. Jam Sports, a division of Chicago-based ]am
Productions, won the seven-year contract over several
other companies including Clear Channel Entertainment,
which is the current promoter of AMA SuperCross events.
The agreement with Clear Channel expires at the end of the
2002 season. AMA Pro Racing CEO Scott Hollingsworth
thanked Clear Charnel for its contributions to SuperCross
over the years but said, "The board felt this was the
appropriate time to take a long, hard look at our
expectations for the future of AMA Supercross and, in
particular, the type of relationship we should develop
with our business partners. Several proposals were
considered, but Jam Sports' stood out, as did the quality
of executive firepower they were prepared to commit to the
future of the sport:'
Jam Sports intends to add new twists to extend SuperCross
festivities, providing several forms of entertainment.
AMA hopes Jam's contacts in the music, television and
motorsports businesses will provide opportunities to
cross- promote SuperCross to new audiences. Leading that
charge will be key Jam Sports principal and longtime Tom
Petty manager Tony Dimitriades. Jerry Mickelson, also a
Jam Sports principal, will take the point on event
production and promotion, routing, venue relations and
merchandising opportunities. Early confirmation of some
2003 season events will be made in coming weeks and a new
television agreement that the AMA calls "groundbreaking"
is said to be under development. |
